JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to in-state rival Troy University in women's college soccer action on Friday night at the JSU Soccer Field.

JSU falls to 2-6-1 on the season while the Trojans improve to 4-2-1 on the year. The Gamecocks will travel to Ruston, La. on Sunday to face Louisiana Tech to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.

Troy orchestrated its first goal of the night in the 39th minute as Nikki Stamaris snuck the ball past the JSU keeper thanks to a cross from Ruth Sutcliffe. After taking to 1-0 lead into the halftime break, the Trojans added their second goal of the night off the foot of Mary Morris. Morris drilled the ball into the net from the left side of the box. She finished the night with a match-best four shots, two on goal.

TU limited the Gamecock offense to just five shots in the contest, while the Trojans were credited with 12 shots. JSU junior Chelsea Pelletier led Jax State with a pair of shot attempts.

Following JSU's trek to Louisiana Tech, it returns home next weekend to open Ohio Valley Conference play against Southeast Missouri. The Lady Techsters (8-2) claimed a 3-1 win over Murray State on Friday night.
