JSU Cross Country Picked To Finish In The Top Half Of The OVC

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State has been selected to finish in the top half of the Ohio Valley Conference in both men's and women's cross country for the 2010 season. The JSU men were selected fourth in the league while the Gamecock women were tabbed fifth by the coaches in the pre-season poll of the league coaches.

Both squads were picked to finish exactly where they placed at the 2009 OVC Championships. JSU's George Kiplaget finished sixth in the 2009 edition of the conference championships. On the women's side, sophomore Ashley Stovall, who became the first female in JSU history to earn OVC All-Conference honors in cross country with a top 10 finish.

Eastern Kentucky claimed both titles last season and will be the favorites again in 2010. Southeast Missouri, Eastern Illinois and Morehead State round out the top five on the men's side. The top five included Eastern Illinois, Murray State and Southeast Missouri on the women's side.

The 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships will be held October 30 in Cookeville, Tenn. with Tennessee Tech University serving as the host.

JSU opens the season on Sept. 4, hosting the JSU/Struts Season Opener at the Oxford Lake & Recreation Center in Oxford, Ala.
