JSU’s Madison To Play Summer Soccer In Home State

Follow The Spokane Black Widows | WPSL

SPOKANE, Wash. -
- Jacksonville State senior defender Alyshia Madison will get to play soccer in her home state of Washington when she takes the field for the Spokane Black Widows of the Women's Premier Soccer League in May.

Black Widows Head Coach Jason Quintero announced the Cheney, Wash., native in the team's first groups of signings this week. Joining Madison are local natives Marissa Mykines (University of Illinois), Ali Fenter (Washington State University), Jackie Hakes (Penn State University) and Jaimey Etten (University of North Carolina-Greensboro).

Madison was selected to the 2009 All-Ohio Valley Conference Second-Team in 2009 as a defender, playing in all 18 games, with two goals and two assists.

"I am excited to have Alyshia as a member of our team," said Quintero. "We are looking for her to play a key role in our defense this season."

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Alyshia,” said JSU Head Coach Julie Carlson. “I know this is something she has had her heart set on. She will gain so much from this experience that will give her greater knowledge and confidence within the game that will be a major factor going into her senior year. Our staff is very excited and proud of her to be representing JSU at the next level."

The Black Widows are one of several new expansion teams to the WPSL, which is considered by many as one of the top amateur summer leagues. Spokane will play in historic Joe Albi Stadium and will open the season on May 22nd against the Central Valley Heat S.C.
