Gamecocks Win Series with 11-6 Win Over UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. – Kyle Bluestein and Daniel Adamson each hit home runs to lead Jacksonville State to an 11-6 win over UT Martin as the Gamecocks won their fourth consecutive series.

Daniel Watts (3-3) had a season-high eight strikeouts in five innings of relief and allowed just four hits to earn the win. Alec Mills (2-2) got stuck with the loss after allowing a pair of runs in 2 2/3 innings.

UTM took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI double by Jordan Owen, but the Gamecocks tied the game in the second after Steven Leach scored on a balk.

The Skyhawks took a 2-1 lead when Ben Brewer scored on a Gamecock throwing error in the home half of the second and extended the lead in the third when Ty Nelson led off with a solo home run and Brent Morris followed with a RBI single up the middle to give UTM a 4-1 lead.

Jax State cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when Bert Smith had a RBI infield grounder and the Gamecocks tied the game in the fifth after Andrew Edge led off with a single and Kyle Bluestein followed with a two-run home run to centerfield.

Tennessee-Martin pushed across a run in the fifth on a RBI single by Brewer to give the Skyhawks a 6-5 lead, but the Gamecocks took the lead for good in the seventh inning.

Bluestein reached on a one-out single and Adamson followed with his fifth home run of the year, with a two-run shot to center field to give the Gamecocks the lead.

Jax State extended the lead in the ninth on three straight RBI singles by Blake Seguin, Todd Cunningham and Smith, before Eberle followed with a two-RBI double to give JSU an 11-5 lead.

Owen had a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth for the final margin. Owen finished the game with four hits to lead the Skyhawks at the plate.

Seguin and Bluestein led the Gamecocks with three hits, while Smith and Sharrock each added two hits.

Jacksonville State returns to action on Tuesday against the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
