Gamecocks Cruise to 17-2 Win Over Kennesaw State

JACKSONVILLE – Daniel Adamson went 4-for-5 and drove in five runs to lead Jacksonville State to a 17-2 win over Kennesaw State in the Gamecocks' home-opener at Rudy Abbott Field on Wednesday.

Freshman Hunter Rivers (1-0) earned his first career win in his collegiate debut after striking out three and allowing just one hit in three solid innings on the mound. Sean Fream (0-2) got stuck with the loss for the Owls after giving up four runs and four hits in just one inning on the mound.

The Gamecocks (1-4) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after Sam Eberle had a two-RBI double, while Jake Sharrock and Adamson each drove in a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Jax State took control in the second inning after scoring seven runs, highlighted by a three-RBI double by Adamson, as the Gamecocks scored a run in each of the first five innings.

Adamson drove in his fifth run of the game in the third inning on an infield single as JSU built a 13-0 lead. Adamson's tied his career-high with the four hits and it marks the sixth time in his career the Clay-Chalkville product finished with four hits in a game.

The Gamecocks added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to build a 16-0 lead, before Kennesaw pushed across two runs in the eighth inning, after Peyton Hart drove in both runs with a single.

Jax State scored its final run in bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Elias for the final margin.

Sharrock finished with three hits, while Bert Smith, Blake Seguin, Todd Cunningham and Jay Davis each had two hits as the Gamecocks finished with a season-high 18 hits on the day.

Jacksonville State returns to action with a three-game series against Southern Illinois this weekend. All three games will begin at 1 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
