AHSAA postpones all weekend events (9/18)

Due to the pending warnings of flooding and high winds from Hurricane Ivan during the next few days, all AHSAA events scheduled this weekend have been postponed by the Alabama High School Athletic Association, Executive Director Dan Washburn announced Wednesday.

Hurricane Ivan—a category 4 (of 5 categories) storm—which made landfall Wednesday night. According to the Weather Channel, the eye of the hurricane should pass just a few miles west of downtown Mobile, Alabama, and cross the state diagonally through the weekend.

"We are calling off all of our football games and all other athletic contests scheduled Thursday, Friday and Saturday because of the weather conditions and aftermath of all the projected winds and rain," Washburn said. "The safety of all the people that are involved with athletic events is a primary concern.

The AHSAA's said that all contests scheduled Sept. 16-18 could be rescheduled at the earliest convenient dates for participating schools. The following schedule changes have been reported to AlabamaRunners:

Scottsboro Invitational: rescheduled to Monday, September 20.
Mountain Brook Invitational: rescheduled to Monday, September 20.
University of Alabama's Crimson Classic (including high school divisions): cancelled.
The Randolph Classic: still scheduled for September 21, moved to the UAH campus.
