JSU Men Wrap Up Homestand Against Morehead State

LIVE STATS | LIVE AUDIO

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville State men's basketball team will be in action on Saturday, when the Gamecocks host Morehead State at 4:30 p.m. at Pete Mathews Coliseum as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.

The Gamecocks will conclude their brief two-game homestand on Saturday, when defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champion Morehead State pays a visit to a place in which it hasn't had a great deal of success of late. The Eagles ride a five-game winning streak into Pete Mathews Coliseum, where they have dropped their last four games.

JSU is coming off of a 68-65 win over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday that snapped a four-game skid and got the Gamecocks back to .500 in league play. In the win, sophomore Stephen Hall and junior Trenton Marshall combined for 35 points, while junior Jeremy Bynum hauled in a career-high nine rebounds to lift JSU to the win.

Trailing by six with less than eight minutes to play, the Gamecocks used a 13-2 run that was capped by Hall's second 3-pointer of the year with 2:14 remaining to take control of the game.

Marshall, a 6-foot-5 native of Garyville, La., leads the OVC in scoring with 18.9 points per game, thanks to an .831 free throw percentage that also ranks atop the OVC.

Morehead State comes into the matchup trailing Murray State by just one half of a game atop the OVC standings. The Eagles cruised to a 77-64 win at Tennessee Tech on Thursday, one that saw forward Kenneth Faried score 20 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. Faried, the league's Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging a double-double on the year. He leads the OVC in rebounds per game with 12.7 and ranks third in scoring with 15.9 points per contest.

Faried leads a group of three Eagles averaging double figures in scoring. Demonte Harper is adding 12.8 points per outing, while Maze Stallworth averages 11.1 per game. They are outrebounding their foes by an average of eight per game.
