Gamecocks Open Two-Game OVC Home Stand On Thursday

JACKSONVILLE –
Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State visit the friendly confines of Pete Mathews Coliseum as part of a two-game Ohio Valley Conference home stand for the Jacksonville women's basketball team. The stand begins on Thursday with the Gamecocks hosting EKU at 3 p.m. before tangling with Morehead State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Gamecocks come into the Thursday's game with a 3-8 overall record and are 0-3 in the OVC. JSU has lost two straight games that included a 56-53 set back at Southeast Missouri on Monday.

Sophomore Brittany Wiley leads JSU with 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Junior Zenobia Pitts follows with 7.8 points while freshman Danielle Vaughn is second on the team with 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Freshman point guard Karisma Boykin is averaging 7.4 points per game and 2.1 assists per game. Boykin recorded her first career double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds against SEMO on Monday.

Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 12-3. The two teams split the season series last year with JSU claming a 73-55 win in Jacksonville in the second meeting.

Jax State has its work cut out with both Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State off to 4-0 starts in the OVC play.

The Colonels are 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the league after a 61-54 overtime win over defending OVC Tournament champion Austin Peay on Monday. EKU is in the midst of two-game winning streak and are off to its first 4-0 OVC start since 2002-03. The Lady Colonels have held seven of their last eight opponents to 60 points or less and have now out-rebounded nine of their 13 opponents this season.

Freshman forward Alex Jones leads EKU in scoring and rebounding, averaging 11 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Jones chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds in the win over APSU.

Morehead State is 11-5 overall and 4-0 following a 61-47 win over Tennessee State on Monday. The Eagles rank in the top three in 16 of the 18 stats categories kept by the conference. MSU's two-game road swing begins at Tennessee Tech on Thursday with the Eagles looking to extent a five game overall OVC streak and a four-game road win streak.

Junior Chynna Bozeman continues to lead the OVC in scoring at 18.8 points per game and has scored in double figures in all 16 games this year. Tiffany Hamilton follows with 12 points per game while Ashar Harris is collecting 10.3 rebounds per contest.

Morehead State has a 7-6 advantage in the all time series and has a two-game win streak after sweeping the season series last.
