2018 Senior Sendoff: Sailor Miles (Saint James)

Athlete: Sailor Miles

School: Saint James

What was your most memorable meet and why?

The most memorable meet was the 2018 Outdoor State Championship because I was able to be on our 4x800m relay team with my sister, and we won gold breaking our school record!

Where did you face your biggest competition?

My biggest competition came daily in practice running with my sister, Presley!

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most and why?

Making State in XC, Indoor, and Outdoor all 6 years are my most prided athletic achievements, along with the All-State and All-Metro Honors.  Academically, receiving Summa Cum Laude Honors was a great accomplishment, being one of three girls in my class to receive the honor.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your running career in high school?

I wouldn't change a single thing about my high school running career. I believe everything happens according to God's plan, for he turns every negative into a positive.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome during your HS Track career?

I developed stomach issues well into my ninth grade year. It affected my running greatly. We saw many doctors, but none of them could diagnose the why. This was definitely the biggest obstacle I had to deal with.

What will you miss the most?

I will most definitely miss racing with my sister, Presley!

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Know your WHY. Why are you running? For God, for your coaches, for your team, for your family, for yourself, for a scholarship? Whatever it may be, you have to know why you're running so you can reflect on it during the tough workouts and competitive races. I also advise to remember that lions don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep. Do not worry about others' opinions when the only opinion that matters is God's.

What are your post-high school or college plans?

I am attending Samford University. I, then, hope to go to Medical School to pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my family, friends, and the best coaching staff around! I couldn't have survived these past six years of cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track without the constant encouragement and constructive criticism!
