Briana Williams Takes Rd. 1 Of Tamari Davis State Showdown

Ask any track and field fan what event they were looking forward to the most at this weekend's state finals and it was the 100m dash between US#1 Briana Williams of Northeast and US#2 Tamari Davis of Gainesville. The top two seeds coming into the finals, they put on a show in the middle of the track running 11.31 and 11.36 respectively.

Williams used her explosiveness out of the blocks to get an early lead, but Davis tried to storm back in the final meters. Her coach Ato Boldon was impressed with the performance despite running into a head wind.  The pair will go head to head in the 200 meters with Davis owning the #1 time in the nation, 23.06 from Bob Hayes with Williams right behind her at 23.11 when she won CARIFTA. Can we see sub 23?

These are two of the brightest young athletes in our sport and the future of global sprinting. The fact that we get to see them as freshman and sophomores competing at the state meet is a treat.
