A Tale of Two Champions - and Possibly 3!
Trey Cunningham (Winfield Class of 2017) racked up 20 Individual State Championships while in high school
Carmen Carlos (McGill Toolen Class of 20130) also holds 20 Individual State Championships across Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track.
Amaris Tyynismaa (Catholic - Montgomery) is sitting at 19 Individual State Championships. She is entered in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m at the state meet. Any win in one will tie her with Cunningham and Carlos. Any two wins and she holds the record outright. Tyynismaa is only a junior and will eventually hold this record, it is just a matter of when.
It should be noted here that all of Cunningham's championships came from Track & Field while the other two enjoyed success in Cross Country as well.
