Throws Review: Listing The Nation's Leaders

As we hit a little past the midway point of April, we hit the halftime point for many track and field programs across the country.

Let's take a look at what the nation has accomplished over that time in the throwing events. Current leaders in each event include:

On the boys side, the discus and shot put are being hotly contested by not just one but several athletes capable of bringing nation-leading marks on any given day. That includes Fort Bend Hightower (Tx.) senior Gabe Oladipo and Desert Vista (Az.) senior Elijah Mason in the discus and Knoch (Pa.) senior Jordan Geist in the shot put. Check out the top 200 rankings to see how close the competition truly is.

On the girls side, meanwhile, it's the same story. Five girls are within four feet of Anumba's top mark in the discus, while five others are eight feet from McArthur's top mark in the hammer throw. Wilson and Wiltrout have stronger holds on the lead in the shot put and javelin.
