McGregor Named Coach For XC And Assistant T&F



"I am really excited to add Pat to our staff.  He brings a wealth of knowledge from some of the top coaches in the country, none better than his Hoover High School coach Devon Hind, and he has personally experienced many of the top collegiate races in the country." Tiffin stated. "I feel that with his hometown connections and intense love of the sport that it will be a perfect fit for him and Samford.

McGregor, a 2009 graduate of Hoover High School, is an accomplished runner who accumulated seven AHSAA Championships as a Buccaneer for Coach Devin Hind.

The Hoover, Alabama native signed with Southeastern Conference member Kentucky where he earned All-SEC Second Team and All-SEC Freshman Team honors after a runner up finish in the 1,500 meters as a freshman at the 2010 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Following his impressive freshman season, McGregor transferred to the University of Texas to compete for the Longhorns and Coach John Hayes.

In 2011, McGregor won the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:24.67 at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships and still holds the Texas record in the event with a time of 2:22.75 which he ran at the beginning of the season at the Arkansas vs Texas Dual meet.

At the same Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2011, he posted runner up finish in the mile (4:08.45) and later recorded a runner up finish at the 2011 Big 12 Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters (3:44.55) as only a sophomore.

McGregor finished his collegiate career as a two-time USATFCCA Second Team All-American in the 1,500 meters.

The talented runner also excelled in the cross country forum as he advanced to the 2012 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships after he secured a 12th place finish at the South Central Regional 10k as a senior.

Following his collegiate career, McGregor ran professionally for Coach Frank Gagliano "Coach Gags" at the prestigious NJNY Track Club in 2014 then followed up with an internship the next season here at Samford.
