USATF Level 1 School Coming to South Alabama

When I was hired as a HS Asst. Coach at Smiths Station in 2005, one of the first things our Head Coach had me do was get a Level 1 USATF Coaching Certification. That rule holds true still as every new coach on our staff attends a USATF Level 1 Certification Course. From developing Training Plans to basic physiology, it gives you a cursory understanding needed to work with all of the different kinds of athlete you come across in Track & Field.

From the USATF Site:

The Level 1 course is the cornerstone of the USATF Coaching Education Program. It establishes a common ground amongst coaches by developing a language specific to the track and field coaching community. The program covers all events in a straightforward manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management, and instruction techniques. Certified by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE), the course prepares an individual to coach at the junior high school, high school, club, and junior age division level.

The University of South Alabama is hosting their annual USATF Level 1 Course July 17-19.
