Alabama invades Georgia...conquerors Berry

Teams from Alabama invaded our neighbors to the east Saturday and returned with the spoils of victory.  The course looked fabulous as always except for being squishy from the rain Friday.  The temperature could not have been better for the Championship races in the morning, however heat and humidity did rear their ugly heads by the JV races.

The Mountain Brook ladies took no prisoners this Saturday as they slammed competition, scoring only 18 points in a high profile South-East meet.  Led by senior standout Madeline Morgan and freshman Catherine Diethelm, the team averaged an impressive 19:19 across 7 runners.  There should be little question now that these ladies are legit and pushing for Oregon.

Not to be outdone by their neighbors, Hoover's girls, led by senior sisters Nicole and Kimberly Muldowney, combined to score 125pts with a team average of 20:27.   Adding to a young and very talented team, Scottsboro regained Junior Caitlin Chitwood from last year's injured list.  The team took 3rd and averaged 20:31. Scottsboro also ran a team of girls in the varsity division that took 4th out of 67 teams.  These girls are deep!

Looking at the boys, Hoover seems to be back with a vengence this year.  Led by talented senior Patrick McGregor, the Bucs combined to average 16:36 scoring only 66pts.  Smiths Station, led by seniors Nathan Prickett and Jonathon Fischer averaged 17:06 as a team.

34 teams competed in the Championship series.
