Troy UniversitySchool Records Falls in Final Day of War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. – After a rain delay postponed competition at the War Eagle Invitational on Friday, the Troy track and field team started competition early on Saturday and saw several outstanding performances all day, including a school record breaking performance.

“The throwers led the way today,” said head coach Jill Lancaster.  “We are very proud of them.  The sprints and distance also had a successful weekend.  We were hoping for better weather but we look forward to Coach “O” next week, our last meet before the Sun Belt Championships.”

“It was a great weekend for the throws at Auburn,” said throwers coach Shawn Williams.  “It was capped off by Zach Douglas’ school record in the shot put and Corina winning the discus competition.  It was a terrific effort all around and I couldn’t be prouder as a coach to see that record fall.”

Douglas placed fourth overall in the men’s shot put at 17.81 meters, setting a personal best and new school record.

Corina Cox brought in a first place finish in women’s discus. Her 47.88-meter throw was almost a full meter farther than the second place finisher. Cox is currently ranked third in the Sun Belt Standings, as well as 66th in the NCAA.

Thaddeus Curtis had standout performances in several races at today’s meet, taking home fifth place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles final and 11th in the men’s 200-meter dash. Curtis is currently holding the first place conference ranking in the 110-meter hurdle, as well as an NCAA ranking in the event. He is also ranked 11th in the Sun Belt in the 200-meters.

Women’s javelin thrower Mariah Pennington placed sixth in today’s meet, with a 37.24-meter throw. The performance was a season best for Pennington and also has ranked her 15th in the conference.

Samuel Johnson also saw his season best javelin throw today in Auburn, with a 51.77-meter throw that placed him 8th in the competition and has ranked him 12th in the Sun Belt.

In other field events, Delonte Martistee placed fourth in men’s triple jump.  Martistee is ranked fifth in the conference in the event.

Benjamin Martin finished fourth in the men’s 100-meter dash finals, with a time of 10.38 seconds. He is ranked second in the conference and 21st in the nation in the race.
